Counselling

Although we all hope to get through life without major problems, the reality is that most of us have to face difficult circumstances at some point. At such times it can help to talk to someone else in privacy, and in confidence. The counsellors at Barnsley College are professionally trained, experienced, and committed to offering you the help you may need. If you have problems whilst you are at College, whether to do with your studies or your personal life, please do not hesitate to contact us. The service is free and confidential.

Counselling offers you the opportunity to talk about important issues, to be listened to, and gain new understanding and awareness. Counsellors do not have any magic answers, but they will take your concerns very seriously and give you time, space, and support, to look at them afresh. It is hoped that this process will help you to reach a better understanding of yourself and of possible choices and solutions. No problem is too small or too big, to bring to counselling. Examples of issues which might trouble you include family and relationship problems; anxiety; self confidence; depression; anger; grief and loss; friendships - and many more. Counselling will be offered for one, a few or many sessions, depending on what is needed. You will be able to discuss how often you want to see your counsellor and ask any questions you may have at your first session.
