Art & Design students launched their ‘Building Bridges’ exhibition at the Civic, Barnsley on Friday 30th October.
‘Building Bridges’ is the first stage of a photographic essay, developed through exchanges between students from Barnsley and Newham Colleges, that will visually document the regeneration of both boroughs in the run up to the 2012 Olympics. Timed to mark the start of the 1000 day countdown to London 2012 on the 31st, the ‘Building Bridges’ project will chart the social, physical and cultural changes happening in both Barnsley and Newham over the course of the next three years.
The photographic work on show has been planned, created and curated by 16-19 year old students from Barnsley College as part of their enterprise skills development.
The exchange is one of the first projects undertaken as part of the Barnsley Newham Partnership. The Barnsley Newham Partnership, with the support of both local authorities, facilitates activities designed, developed and delivered by the communities of both Boroughs. Inspired by London 2012, the Barnsley Newham Partnership is a unique joint venture established in order to promote and extend the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect throughout the UK.
