Barnsley College Information for Parents

Information for Parents

Free Bus Service

As we know that it may not be easy for some students to get to and from college, we offer a bus service on three routes in the area. These bus routes are completely free for our students and operate on a first come, first served basis. Each route will get students into college in the morning before lessons start and a return service is provided after lessons finish. Have a look at the timetables by visiting our Free bus service page.

Parents' Portal (ProPortal)

Parents or carers can use the Parents' Portal to remotely access and track information on students attendance and punctuality, timetabling, grades and marks, and subject reviews.

You will need to register for a username and password before you can use the portal. Instructions for how to do this can be found in the document at the bottom of the page.

What's Next?
Year 11 Parent Handbook

Starting college is an exciting time for young people, they have made a real choice about staying on in education and no doubt you will have many questions regarding the various aspects of the college and college life. These pages are designed as a resource for parents and guardians and will hopefully answer some of these questions.  You can download a copy of our Parent Handbook from the link above,  which also has a wealth of information. You might also like to look at the newsletters we publish, read our latest News stories and see what events we have planned by visiting our News and Events page.

For parents of prospective students we also hold an annual Parent Information Evening. The last one was held in September 2015 and was aimed specifically at parents/carers of Year 11 school pupils. There were a number of presentations that took place throughout the evening on A Levels, Vocational Pathways and Apprenticeships. All academic departments were represented in the Atrium where tutors were available to talk to visitors.

Of the parents who attended the event, 86% spoke to a tutor about a specific course, 100% found the staff helpful and 100% said they found the event useful.

Please feel confident that you can get in touch with us if you have any query or concern. It is very important that we work together to help your son/daughter develop into an independent well educated and responsible adult. Call us on Tel: +44 (0)1226 216 123 or email:

Project Connect

All our students are part of Project Connect, a college-wide initiative that promotes and drives high expectations, high aspirations, consistent positive behaviour, safeguarding and equality and diversity, all preparing them for employment and/or further study.

The project is about developing good values, attitudes and habits (such as wearing their college ID badge at all times, respecting staff and fellow students and abiding by college rules) to create a really positive working environment.

Students will find out more about Project Connect when they come to college.
