Entry Requirements
You will need to have GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or above OR Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent prior to the course.
You will also need to be aged 19 before the programme begins in September.
Whilst prior experience is not a requirement for entry to the programme, all learners wishing to progress to university are advised to have prior experience of work within their intended specialist area, prior to commencing the course.
Students will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme.

Where, When and how will I study?
This intensive course starts in September and finishes in July. You will be expected to carry out a substantial amount of self study in your own time.
There is a mixture of study methods employed on both programmes e.g. lectures, practical experiments, group workshops and discussions to stimulate your interest and enhance your learning.
What subject areas will I study?
The following areas are covered:
Study Skills: including essay writing, reading, note making, interviewing, examination techniques, and listening skills.
Health Studies: including health and the environment, health promotion, health and disease, alternative therapies, and evaluation of health care.
Psychology: you will explore the study of human behaviour in various ways such as human development, thinking, intelligence and mental health.
Biology: including the actions of the cardio-respiratory system; nutrition and the digestive system; homeostatic mechanisms; cell biology and practical skills.
How will I be assessed?
You will be continually assessed on this programme through a wide variety of course work e.g. an essay, a report, a presentation and/or group work. Although there is no formal examination an end of module test is used to collect some evidence needed for the examinations techniques module.
What qualifications might I achieve?
You can achieve Level 2 or Level 3 credits validated by the Open College Network, which is a ‘kite marked’ accreditation body. To achieve the Access to HE Diploma, you must achieve an agreed number of credits, which is currently 60: 45 of which are at level 3 and 15 at Level 2.
Where can I go from here?
On completion of this programme, you could apply for training in a career such as nursing, midwifery, or other paramedical professions such as chiropody, laboratory technician, operating department technician, cardiology or audiology. You could also apply for other degrees such as Social Work; Health and Community Studies; Psychology, Justice and Criminology.
Students wishing to apply to University are advised to contact the relevant admissions tutor with regard to the level of English and Maths required for entry. Likewise students should check that the course is acceptable as an entry qualification for the degree programme they wish to enter.
