Entry Requirements

You will need to have gained GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade D, or Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy, or equivalent prior to beginning the course.
You also need to be aged 18 before the programme begins in September.

Students will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme.

Where, When and how will I study?

You may study this programme during the daytime, at the Old Mill Lane Site. 
The course starts in September and finishes in July.  You are also expected to carry out a substantial amount of self study in your own time.
There is a mixture of study methods employed on both programmes, such as lectures, practical, work, group workshops, and discussions to stimulate your interest and enhance your learning

What subject areas will I study?

The following areas are covered:

Study Skills: including essay writing, reading, note making, interviewing, personal and professional development.

Health Promotion
: including professionalism, working in a health care setting, Group and team working skills.

Career Development: you will create a career portfolio, producing CV’s, applications, interview skills etc.

Citizenship: looking at citizenship and being an active participant in your community, diversity respecting individual difference.

What equipment will I need?

No specialist equipment required, although access to a computer and the internet from home would be of benefit.  A text book will be required for some subjects

How will I be assessed?

You will be continually assessed on this programme through a wide variety of course work, which may take several forms e.g. an essay, discussions, debates, a report, a presentation, and/or group work. There is no formal end examination as grades are based on coursework.

What qualifications might I achieve?

You can achieve Level 2 credits validated by the Open College Network, which is a ‘kite marked’ accreditation body.  To achieve the Progression Diploma, you must achieve an agreed number of credits, which is currently 46 at Level 2.

Where can I go from here?

On completion of this programme, you could apply for work or training in Health and Social care.
You could also apply for other courses such as the Access to HE Diploma
Students wishing to apply to University are advised to contact the relevant admissions tutor with regard to the level of English and Maths required for entry. Likewise, students should check that the course is acceptable as an entry qualification for the degree programme they wish to enter.

The College has Access Funds that may assist students with expenses such as travel, books, equipment, and child care.  Applications for assistance should be made to Student Services and will be dealt with on an individual basis.
