Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English Language and Science (usually Dual Award)
or Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care at Merit Grade plus Level 2 Functional Skills in English
Course Content
This course will develop your theoretical knowledge of animal biology, care and management. You will undertake a specialist investigation related to the Animal Care industry which will develop your study skills. In the second year you will undertake a work placement within an approved organisation to enhance your practical skills. Others areas of study will include:
- Principles of animal biology, anatomy and physiology
- Animal health and nursing
- Aquatics management
- Animal breeds, genetics and grooming
- The care and welfare of farm livestock
- Ecology and conservation and wildlife rehabilitation
- Animal behaviour and communication
What can I do next?
Employment – This course can lead to employment as a Veterinary Nurse, Animal Technician, Pet Groomer, Animal Welfare Officer, Environmental Health Officer, Open Farms or Kennels/Cattery Management.
Education – You could progress to higher level qualifications at university such as Veterinary Nursing, Wildlife Conservation and Zoology.
