Course Content

This course will develop your theoretical knowledge of animal biology, care and management. You will undertake a specialist investigation related to the Animal Care industry which will develop your study skills. In the second year you will undertake a work placement within an approved organisation to enhance your practical skills. Others areas of study will include:

  • Principles of animal biology, anatomy and physiology
  • Animal health and nursing
  • Aquatics management 
  • Animal breeds, genetics and grooming 
  • The care and welfare of farm livestock
  • Ecology and conservation and wildlife rehabilitation 
  • Animal behaviour and communication

What can I do next?

Employment – This course can lead to employment as a Veterinary Nurse, Animal Technician, Pet Groomer, Animal Welfare Officer, Environmental Health Officer, Open Farms or Kennels/Cattery Management.


Education – You could progress to higher level qualifications at university such as Veterinary Nursing, Wildlife Conservation and Zoology.
