Course overview

This Defra-approved qualification offers a single unit solution to your Automotive Refrigerant Handling training needs. It provides experienced automotive Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) Technicians with evidence that they meet the minimum F-Gas requirement (EC842/2006 and annex EC307/2008).

Course content

All Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) Technicians working with cars and car derived vans must have achieved, as a minimum requirement, a refrigerant handling qualification which fulfils the European Union F-Gas Regulation (EC842/2006) and Annex to Regulation (EC307/2008). Completion of this course will mean you meet that requirement.

You will complete a practical assessment and an external online test set by IMI. The assessment ensures rigour and quality by measuring your underpinning knowledge, including knowledge of the F Gas regulations.

Successful candidates will be issued with a certificate which shows they are compliant and meet the requirements to continue practicing their trade.

You will need:

  • Overalls and steel toe cap safety footwear
  • Highlighter pens
  • A basic geometry set
  • A scientific calculator

How much does the course cost?

This course costs £200. Funding may be available subject to eligibility.

Extra information

If you are aged 19 or over, you may not have to pay for this course if:

  • You do not already have a level 3 qualification OR
  • You already have a level 3 qualification or higher but earn below £21,255 annually
  • You already have a level 3 qualification or higher but are unemployed and in receipt of a means-tested benefit.

This course is funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and/or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). You must be living in the South or West Yorkshire regions to qualify for funding.
