Entry Requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English Language, Maths and Science (details below)

    either GCSE Biology at Grade C or above

    or GCSE Core and Additional Science at Grade B or above

    please note GCSE Applied Science or BTEC First Diploma Applied Science will not be accepted on this course but is accepted on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science(Forensic Science)

    in addition Learners with Grade Bs in any two of English Language, Maths and Core and Additional Science will be considered and assessed for suitability at induction

    plus good personal reference demonstrating acceptable level of attendance and commitment to hard work

Course Content

You gain an AS Level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A Level after successfully completing Year 2.

Year 1
The first year of this course will cover; Biology and Disease, The Variety of Living Organisms and Investigative and Investigative and Practical Skills in As Biology.

Year 2
The second year of the course will then look at; Populations and Environment, Control in Cells and in Organisms and Investigative and Practical Skills in A2 Biology.

Assessment:
Examination and internal assessment of practical skills.

Progression

Biology is a desirable qualification for a wide range of degree courses. These include Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Horticulture and Ecology. It is also important for paramedical studies such as Nursing, Radiography, Pharmacy, Environmental Health and Medical laboratory work. Careers include: Doctor, Marine Biologist and Sport and Fitness Trainer among others.
