Entry Requirements
There are no formal qualifications for this award; however you must be a volunteer, a childminder or currently employed in an OFSTED inspected environment – having experience in an Early Years setting. An initial assessment for Numeracy & Literacy will take place on application to the course.
Students will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme.

Where, When and how will I study?
Learners will complete within 1 year. You will be given a named assessor who will assess you in the workplace on a regular basis throughout the course. You will be expected to undertake 12-15 hours or more per week in your work placement, and working with children from birth to 19 years. Appointment sessions will be available in the college workshop at the Old Mill Lane site for guidance & support and professional discussions, on Monday evenings between 5pm – 7pm to support and monitor your progress

TDA: 2.1 Child and Young People’s Development
TDA 2.2: Safeguard the welfare of children and young people
TDA 2.7: Maintain and support relationships with children & young people
TDA 2.9: Support children and young people’s positive behaviour
MU 2.4: Contribute to children and young people’s safety
MU 2.8: Contribute to the support of the positive environments children and young people
MU 2.9 Understand partnership working in services for children and young people
PEFAP 001: Paediatric emergency first aid
MPII002: Managing paediatric illness and injury
Optional Units
You will choose from a variety of optional units depending on your own role & responsibility in the workplace. These will build up the remaining credits to achieve the full L2 Certificate
What equipment will I need?
You will be required to provide paper, writing materials, A4 ring binder file, extra wide dividers and clear plastic wallets. A copy of the standard handbook will be provided and given to you by your assessor on the first visit.
How will I be assessed?
Through Work based Assessments in your work placement and various evidence methods throughout the programme, building up a portfolio.
What qualifications might I achieve?
Level 2 Certificate for Children and Young Peoples Workforce (QCF) (35 credits)
