Entry Requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English Language and Maths (Maths must be Grade B or above)

    plus Good personal reference demonstrating acceptable level of attendance and commitment to hard work

    please note Students will not usually be able to take this subject alongside A Level ICT

Course Content

You gain an AS Level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A Level after successfully completing Year 2.

Year 1

The first year of this course seeks to develop candidates skills in the following areas:

• Computer Systems
• Hardware Elements of Computers
• Machine Level Architecture
• Hardware Devices
• Structure of the Internet
• Web Page Design
• Uses of Computing Course

Year 2

Year 2 will build on the skills acquired in the first year looking at:
• Problem Solving
• Programming Concepts
• Real Numbers
• Operating Systems
• Databases
• Communication and Networking
• Systems Development
• Analysis
• Design
• Construction / Implementation
• Testing
• Training
• Maintenance
• Evaluation

Progression

Computing will prepare a student for a range of degrees including Computer Science and Software Engineering. Computing can also often provide transferable skills for a range of other subjects and careers. Careers include: Computer Processor Database Analyst/Designer, Helpdesk/User Support, Network Administrator and Programmer.

What subjects can I study with this course?
Many students who study Computing also choose Maths or Science subjects, however Computing complements a wide range of subjects.
