Entry Requirements
This course is intended for qualified electricians – generally installations and design, but alternative qualifications may be suitable, such as electrical maintenance electricians with appropriate level 2 qualifications such as City and Guilds or BTEC Nationals, ONC, OND, etc, who have gained some experience of working in the electrical contracting industry, or those working in areas within which the requirements of the regulations need to be applied.
It is a requirement of City and Guilds that before starting the course, all applicants must show evidence of their electrical qualifications and/or experience (eg – certificates, qualification notices, etc).

When and how will I study?
This programme will start in September, January and April and will be based at the Construction and Engineering Centre or other suitable venue depending on demand and availability. The programme is typically run for a period of 11 weeks with attendance for 2 hours per session.
The course is usually offered on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8.30pm, but can be made available on other days and times depending on demand.
What subject areas will I study?
The programme is intended to provide qualified electricians with sufficient working knowledge of the Wiring Regulations and the application of these regulations to actual situations, ensuring compliance with the requirements.
What equipment will I need?
On starting the course, a copy of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations will be provided to each student to ensure that sufficient familiarity is developed as the course progresses, as well as allowing some practice use at home and at work. Pen, notepad, calculator, etc.
How will I be assessed?
You are assessed through a 60 question, multiple choice paper, set by City & Guilds, usually taken immediately the programme has finished.
What qualification might I achieve?
The Requirements for Electrical Installations, BS7671 2008.
