  • 5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English Language

    plus Good personal reference demonstrating acceptable level of attendance and commitment to hard work

Course Content

(you gain an AS level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A level after successfully completing Year 2)

Year 1
Introducing Analysis and Production

• Address literary and stylistic issues
• A language production task

Analysing Speech and its Representation

• An unseen comparative analysis of different speech texts
• Examine speech, style and theme within a set text

Year 2

Comparison and Adaptation

• A Comparative analysis of three types of unseen text
• A re-casting task for a given audience based on a set text

Comparative Analysis (Coursework Unit)

• One coursework task to be completed on an aspect of two texts (at least one poetry) chosen from a list
• Evidence of drafting is a requirement

Progression

An A Level in English Language and Literature is valued by both Higher Education establishments and employers, since it is evidence of both a high level of literacy and the ability to think analytically. Careers include: Teacher, Author, Publisher, Librarian, Lawyer, Journalist and Media related professions.
