Course Content
You gain an AS level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A level after successfully completing Year 2.
Year 1
Texts in Context
• One set poetry text plus wider reading in a selected area of study
• Candidates answer two questions: one on wider reading, one on poetry text
Creative Study (Coursework)
• One prose text and one drama text. Two tasks - 2000 to 2500 words in total
• A personally informed response to prose and a piece on the drama text
Year 2
Reading for Meaning
• Candidates must answer a question on the theme 'Love through the Ages'
• Unprepared extracts will be connected to candidates' wider reading
Comparative Essay (Coursework)
• An extended essay comparing two texts and a Shakespeare play of the candidate's choice - 3000 words

An A Level in English Literature is valued by both Higher Education establishments and employers, since it is evidence of both a high level of communication, literacy and the ability to think analytically.
