  • 5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English Language and French

    plus Good personal reference demonstrating acceptable level of attendance and commitment to hard work

Course Content

You gain an AS level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A level after successfully completing Year 2.

Year 1

Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing in French based on 4 core topics-
• Media: TV, Advertising and Communication Technology
• Popular Culture: Cinema, Music, Fashion and Trends
• Health: Sport, Exercise, Health, Wellbeing, Holidays and Tourism
• Family/Relationships: Young Person - Parent Relationships, Friendships, Marriage and Partnerships

Year 2

Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing in French based on 3 core topics -
• Environment: Pollution, Energy and Protecting the Planet
• Multiculturalism: Immigration, Integration and Racism
• Social Issues: Wealth, Poverty, Law and Order and Scientific/Technological Progress

plus
2 Cultural Topics:
1) Study of a Novel - Plot, Theme, Context, Character and Authorial Messages
2) Study of a Film/Film Director

Assessment:

Assessment is by examination
1) Oral
2) Synoptic unit - listening/reading/writing

Progression

French speakers are often in demand with businesses, particularly international companies. Careers include: International Law, Journalism and Translation/Interpreting.

What subjects can I study with this course?

You could do another foreign language such as Spanish, but French can be combined with a number of A Levels including Business Studies, Economics and Law.
