Course Content
You gain an AS level after successfully completing Year 1, you will be awarded a full A level after successfully completing Year 2.
Year 1
Unit One covers Russian history from 1881 to 1924, looking at the Russian revolution and the development of the new communist state. It also covers the period from 1924 to 1953 which saw Joseph Stalin's rise to power and his transformation of Russia.
Unit Two deals with the relations between Britain and Ireland from 1867 to 1922 looking at the development of Irish Nationalism and Unionism and finishing with the war of independence and the partition of Ireland.
Year 2
Unit Three focuses on German history from 1900 to 1945 from the period before the First World War under Kaiser Wilhelm II, through the impact of the war, the Weimar Republic and the rise of Hitler, and Nazi rule, to the end of the Second World War.
Unit Four is a coursework unit, which requires a written personal study on a chosen historical theme relating to the Middle-East and the Arab-Israeli conflict from 1900 to 2001. There will be a short introductory course and help will be given to research and write your personal study.
Assessment
Year 1: 2 Written exams of 1 hour 20 minutes each
Year 2: Coursework and 2 hour written exam
