Course Content
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to general horticulture, combining practical training with theory with other vocational opportunities. The facilities you will be learning in include commercial glass houses and poly-tunnels, complimented with industry standard horticulture equipment. You will take part in a work placement one day a week as well as studying up to 4 days a week. The areas studied include:
- Basic principles of plant and soil science and animal and plant biology
- Establish and maintain plants outdoors
- Nursery stock production
- Protected and outdoor horticultural plant and crop production
- Land-based machinery operations
- Sports and amenity turf maintenance
What can I do next?
Employment – This course can lead to employment as a Landscaper, Groundsperson, Garden Centre Assistant and other related roles.
Education – Students often progress to higher level qualifications; we offer an Apprenticeship in Horticulture at the College.
