  • Initial assessment of level 1 or above

What subject areas will I study? 

The programme is a preparation for work course and based on capability and knowledge. The course will include:

  • Skin and nail analysis
  • Manicure treatments including; - filing, cuticle work, massage, nail painting (dark/French), exfoliation, foot masks and heat treatments
  • Health and safety
  • Consultation & aftercare advice
  • Contra-indications/ contra actions to treatment
  • Science to include skin and nail structure/ function, function of blood / lymph to the lower arm and hand, bones / muscles of the lower arm and hand

What equipment will I need?

You will be informed on the open evening / enrolment of the cost for the equipment.

Equipment required:

Uniform

Nail file/emery board              

Cuticle nippers

Orangewood sticks                  

Hand mask & paraffin wax brush

Pusher plus/ cuticle knife         

Body sponges

Nail clippers 

You will also be required to bring stationary to each lesson such as pens, pencils, A4 paper and folder.

How will I be assessed?

Practical and written assessments will take place throughout the course. At the end of the programme there will be an online test.

Both the practical and the online assessment must be achieved to gain the qualification.


What qualifications might I achieve?

City and Guilds Level 2 Award in manicure

  • Level 2 Award Removing hair using waxing techniques

  • Level 2 Award Provide eyelash/eyebrow treatments
  • Level 3 Award Provide massage
  • Level 3 Award Provide Self-tanning
