What subject areas will I study?
Year 1: learners will complete the Painting and Decorating Construction Diploma Level 1.
Year 2: learners will complete the Painting and Decorating Construction Diploma Level 2.
- Carry out safe working practices in Construction
- Information, qualities and communicating with others
- Building methods and construction technology
- Prepare surfaces for decoration
- Apply paint systems by brush and roller
- Apply standard papers to walls and ceilings
- Produce specialist decorative finishes
- Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms
- Assignments
What equipment will I need?
You will require suitable footwear, safety boots, protective overalls, drawing and writing paper, folders and a calculator.
How will I be assessed?
Throughout the programme, practical work and related job knowledge are studied and accredited on a unit basis, towards Level 1 in your chosen craft. To gain a construction Diploma for a practical skills or trade, you will have to demonstrate satisfactorily, to an assessor, that you are able to carry out the necessary tasks to an industry acceptable standard.

On completion of this programme, you may wish to progress on to the Painting and Decorating Diploma Level 3 which is available at Barnsley College.
16 – 18 year olds
Full-time Barnsley College student’s 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees unless the course is listed as FULL FEE PAYABLE.
