Learners are expected to hold a level three in their subject specialism although this is not essential.
It is desirable that learners achieve a level 2 in literacy at initial assessment.
Students will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme.

What subject areas will I study?

The 7303 Award is one unit, comprising five sections based on the teaching/training cycle.

The five sections cover candidates’ understanding of:

  • Own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
  • Appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
  • Session planning skills and demonstration of those skills
  • How to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
  • The use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

It has a value of 12 credits on the new Qualification Credit Framework (QCF), and consists of 44 contact and 44 non-contract hours.


What equipment will I need?

You will need to provide your own writing materials, paper and ring binders.  A calculator and dictionary are also desirable.

How will I be assessed?

Candidates are required to complete written assignments and a micro-teach to be achieved at Level 3

The assignments are broken down into smaller assessment tasks, which have an emphasis on creative and ‘hands on’ learning.

What qualifications might I achieve?

PTTLS Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector Level 3

Where can I go from here?

On completion of this programme you may wish to progress on to the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) or the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
