Health & Wellbeing

Barnsley College Health & Wellbeing Centre opened in September 2009 with the view to maintain and improve the health of the Colleges Students and Staff within the educational environment both on a physical and mental level.

The service works on a drop in basis and is completely confidential and free of charge.

Facilities:

• 2 treatment rooms and 1 teaching room for small group work.

Currently at the centre are 3 full time nurses each with a background specialism in aspects of sexual health. We also have a community nurse and a midwife. The IAPT team come daily (Improved Access to Psychological Therapies).

Services:

• Full contraceptive & Sexual Health service.
• All general health cover.
• Depression, bereavement, anxiety etc.
• Healthy eating programmes.
• Diet and exercise programmes.
• Stop Smoking.
• Alcohol and drug abuse.
• Stop Gambling.
• Cervical cancer vaccination.
• Blood donation.
• Bone density screening.
• Anger / stress management.

There is lots of information available at the Centre and throughout the year we are running health promotion campaigns to increase people’s awareness of various health issues. Above and beyond this we are offering health education sessions within the tutorial setting based on student led agendas.
