This is an accolade which reflects the performance of teachers and students, as well as the exceptionally high quality of our courses and resources. Over 6,500 students study with us either full or part time, and our goal is to help them achieve their full potential. We currently have students from over 70 nationalities attending our courses.
The College has also been awarded the prestigious Beacon Status from the UK Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), and this is confirmation of our exemplary teaching and learning practice.
Our College also has a wide range of facilities, including a food court and high quality restaurant (Zest!), coffee bars, a gift shop, a gym and fitness centre, AstroTurf sport pitches and a whole host more. It’s an inspiring environment in which to learn and develop lifelong friendships.
Honeywell Sports Centre
Barnsley College is one of a small number of Colleges with a Sports Academy that provides learners with the opportunity to study and develop as a performance specialist whilst pursuing their sporting dreams.
The Sports Academy has a national reputation for supporting individual athletic development, and producing some of the regions strongest and most successful sport teams. This makes Barnsley College the number one place to study in the region!
Over the past two years the College has invested heavily in its capital build programme with excellent new sports facilities being developed at the Honeywell Campus.
During the day the centre is host to approximately 400 full and part-time Sport & Public Services students, whilst evenings and weekends the excellent facilities are available for hire to the community and sports clubs.
Our wonderful facilities can accommodate a wide range of activities such as Football, Basketball, Netball, Cricket, Hockey, Volleyball, Badminton and general skills and fitness sessions. National Governing Bodies and Sports Clubs are also welcome.

The Shed Performance Venue
We have an exclusive theatre within Barnsley College, which provide an exciting live performance and entertainment venue. The theatre is the main performance venue for the College’s Faculty of Arts Media and Entertainment. The theatre is also used to develop student’s experience in working in and managing the complex requirements of a professional working theatre.
Barnsley College ‘Think Low Carbon Centre’ is a world leader in sustainable education and low carbon innovation. Our state of the art, low impact building was opened in February 2012, and is the venue for lectures, workshops, research and conferences, and incorporates the latest building methodologies and renewable energy technologies.
Tutors, lecturers and students have access to one of the most technologically advanced learning centres in the world, where students gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience of low carbon construction and environmentally sustainable principles and practice.
The Centre showcases a wide range of renewable energy technologies including solar photovoltaic (PV), solar thermal, wind, biomass, ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps , water retention and recycling, in addition to green roof technologies.
Our staff have extensive industry experience from across a range of professional disciplines associated with the construction industry. We work in partnership with the private sector and invite visiting lecturers from consultancy companies, equipment and component suppliers and large contractors to the College to reinforce the practical nature of courses and events.
