Free Bus Services

We realise that getting to and from college may not be very easy for students which is why we have funded the following return bus routes for you:

Shelley > Barnsley College (Old Mill Lane campus)

Stocksbridge via Penistone > Barnsley College (Old Mill Lane campus)

Old Mill Lane campus > Wigfield Farm (Animal Care/Horticulture)

Kimberworth – Thorpe Hesley – Ecclesfield – Chapeltown – High Green > Barnsley College (Old Mill Lane campus)

NEW West Yorkshire route for September 2017! South Elmsall > Old Mill Lane Campus (via Hemsworth, Fitzwilliam, Havercroft and Ryhill) *Timetable coming soon*

The bus routes are FREE for you if you are a student at Barnsley College or Barnsley Sixth Form College and operate on a first come, first served basis. You will need to show the driver your student card when you board the bus.

Each route will operate in the morning in order to get you into college before lessons start and a return service will operate from Old Mill Lane site at the end of the day.

Concessionary Travel Passes

From 1 July 2017,  Concessionary Travel Passes will be available to young people aged between 16-18 living in South Yorkshire, regardless of the number of hours in study. They are available to young people in employment including apprentices, can be used over the summer months and are valid for two years so there’s no need to re-apply each year.

Need help with travel planning?

The ‘Get Moving’ e-learning resource from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund Inmotion! project provides public transport advice and support independent travel and develop confidence and self-esteem.

‘Get Moving’ is easily accessible and offers tools to aid independent travel training, including:

  • Journey planner – find out how to plan a journey from your front door.
  • Interactive Map – helps with planning a journey, shows where the nearest bus/tram/train stops are in a specific location and live departure/timetable information from bus/tram stops. Also shows the distance you can travel within 45 minutes – you might be surprised how far you can go!
  • My TSY – personal account function which allows you to store favourite journeys and shows you how to apply for personalised smartcard travel passes and tickets.
  • Access to social media options so you can keep up to date with public transport announcements.
