Would you like to work within criminal justice or policing but your lack of degree is holding you back? Barnsley College is excited to offer a new online Level 3 Access to Higher Education (HE) in Criminal Justice and Policing qualification. Applications are being accepted now for courses starting in September 2022.
This online Level 3 qualification will prepare students who don’t yet have the necessary qualifications for study at degree level and is suitable for those interested in a career in the criminal justice, policing and forces industry.
“We have very successful former students, all of whom have either progressed onto the Policing Degree Apprenticeship or attained places at their chosen universities. Adult education is a real passion of mine.”
Students will explore Criminal Justice and Policing topics including: criminal law, drugs offences, the powers of the police, public order offences, theories of crime, crime scene management, police interviewing, criminology and Higher Education study skills.
Luke Hellewell, Public Services HE Pathway Leader at Barnsley College, said: “The Level 3 Access to Higher Education in Criminal Justice and Policing is a fascinating qualification that focusses on topic areas that are reflective of a Police Officer’s initial training, allowing students to best prepare for their chosen career.
“We have very successful former students, all of whom have either progressed onto the Policing Degree Apprenticeship or attained places at their chosen universities. Adult education is a real passion of mine. This online provision that will be delivered in evenings allows the barriers that some adults may experience in entering education to be broken down, in order to pursue professional career opportunities within the Criminal Justice sector. I look forward to having a conversation with anyone who may be considering this online qualification – that can be accessed from anywhere!”
Aaron Wood, a former Level 3 Access to Higher Education in Criminal Justice and Policing student, who is now studying a Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, added: “I’d recommend the College! I enjoyed meeting new people and learning more detail about subjects relating to my future career. The College is very well organised and provides many opportunities.”
