College Beauty Treatments Fundraiser
Posted: 04/06/2025
The Learning for Living and Work (LFLW) department, in collaboration with the Hair and Beauty department, is hosting a beauty service event on Tuesday 10 June, 10.00am to 2.00pm in The Open Kitchen, S70 2AX. This event aims to support Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS) by raising funds for the renovation and redevelopment of the garden at a Barnsley women’s refuge. The garden will provide a welcoming safe haven for women and children who have experienced or are survivors of domestic abuse.
Attendees can indulge in a variety of 20-minute treatments, including hand and arm massages, nail filing and polishing, and Mehndi (Henna). Each service, offered by the Hair and Beauty students, will be available for just £5. Complimentary tea, coffee and squash will be provided throughout the event. The treatments are open to everyone and early booking is recommended due to limited availability. Attendees can also participate in a raffle, with prizes ranging from beauty treatment gift vouchers to a beauty hamper.

Nicola Thomson-Dewey, Head of the Learning for Living and Work department and IDAS ambassador at the College, remarked: “This initiative is a wonderful opportunity to support a vital cause while engaging our students in practical, hands-on experience.
“I am thrilled to be part of this extension with IDAS, continuing my work to make a positive impact.”
Julie Allen, Hair and Beauty Programme Manager, added: “The services offered will be excellent practice for our students, allowing them to gain valuable experience while contributing to the community.”
The renovation and redevelopment of the IDAS garden will be undertaken by our Construction and Horticulture students during the upcoming academic year.
