What are the Bears of Sheffield?
The Bears of Sheffield is a public arts exhibition being coordinated by the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.
The project consists of 60 big and 100 little bear sculptures that will be placed around the city of Sheffield and form a trail for members of the public to follow. The bears will raise vital funds to transform the Cancer and Leukaemia ward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The department treats children from babies through to 19-year olds in South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and as far south as Northampton.
How we got involved
We are thrilled to have sponsored a little bear of our own, called ‘Where’s Dali?’, which we have designed and decorated and will be part of the trail! The task of painting our bear sculpture has been skillfully undertaken by our Art and Design staff and students. We’ve also been doing some fundraising to support such a fantastic cause.
We think the Barnsley College bear looks fantastic and we can’t wait to see it out in Sheffield in July.
Below is a guide to the various famous artworks which have been incorporated into our bear.
A work in progress
Here’s a series of images to show the bear’s progress from a blank, white sculpture to vibrant art-filled finished version.
