Accountancy students network with industry professionals

L-R: Rachel Tunnicliffe, Oakworth Financial Planning Ltd.; Jonathan Noble, Barnsley Business Village; Jess Widdowson, Barnsley College; Brooke Jennings, a Barnsley College AAT student; Kirsty Morgan, Yorkshire Bank; Joanna Longfellow, MKB Solicitors; Tracy Rodgers, MKB Solicitors and Chelsea Goulding, MKB Solicitors.

Our Level 2 AAT Accountancy students got an opportunity to talk to professionals from the industry at a speed networking event.

Over 40 students attended the session that was organised by Talent United and attended by representatives from a range of companies including Oakworth Financial Planning Ltd., J and J Commercial Finance, Yorkshire Bank, MKB Solicitors and Barnsley Business Village.

Each student was given three minutes to speak to a representative before being rotated onto the next business. At the end, students were given the opportunity to network with the exhibitors in a relaxed environment.

The event was an excellent way for our students to think about their careers and be inspired. It provided an opportunity to connect with experts from the industry, learn valuable networking skills and potentially meet new business connections.

Brooke Jennings, Level 2 AAT Accountancy student, said: “The event was really good as I got to meet a range of businesses and ask the representatives questions. I got lots of information from them and now I know I want to work as a Charted Accountant once I finish my course.”

“I have a better understanding of the opportunities that are available once I complete my studies.”

Student Daneyal Moghaddary, added: “I have a better understanding of the opportunities that are available once I complete my studies. It also helped me to improve my confidence.”

Rachel Tunnicliffe, Financial Planner at Oakworth Financial Planning Ltd., went onto say: “At present, there isn’t enough people working in our industry, so events like these allow us to meet the next generation of employees and tell them about the range of careers and opportunities that are available to them.”
