Barnsley College Apprentices outperform the region

Barnsley College has featured in the top ten colleges in the UK for its apprenticeships.

In a recent report from the Skills Funding Agency, the college has been highlighted as the number one most successful FE College in South Yorkshire for its apprenticeships.

Of the 720 apprentices that completed their programme in 2013/14, over 87% (630 students) achieved their qualification, placing the college sixth in the country.

This is another accolade for the outstanding college and its students.

Colin Booth OBE, Principal of Barnsley College, said “This is a great achievement for our apprentices, their employers and the college’s hard working staff. We pride ourselves on supporting the region’s young people to succeed, whether that is in college or in industry, and these results show that we are providing our students with the best possible chances.
“When we consider that 94% of our learners also progress to sustainable employment or further study, we can be confident in our assurances to parents, young people and employers, that Barnsley College provides outstanding opportunities and delivers outstanding success.
“Of course, none of this is possible without the ongoing support of local businesses who continue to provide our apprentices with valuable employment and training opportunities.”

The report, which is issued annually, showed just one other Yorkshire based college in the top ten, Craven College, which had 306 apprentices successfully complete their programmes.
