Barnsley College has won an award for its iTrust programme at the inaugural Educate North Awards ceremony.
The college held off competition from the Learning Curve Group and the University of Central Lancashire to claim the Innovation Award at the event, which was held at The Hilton Manchester in association with The Telegraph Media Group.
The ceremony celebrated and recognised best practice and excellence in the education sector in the North and iTrust was declared a winner for its support to business start-ups.
iTrust is run in partnership with the Barnsley Chronicle and offers small grants, mentor support and guidance to businesses established by students and alumni of Barnsley College and University Campus Barnsley. This includes access to specialist training and development, networking opportunities and essential industry links to businesses and customers.
Rubina Rashid, Head of Enterprise, said: “It is very pleasing to receive the Innovation Award and to be recognised for the business support iTrust has given to our students. The programme has supported a range of business start-ups which have now been trading for over a year and it has been rewarding to see their progress.”
