We are competing in the first Soapbox Derby organised by Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
The college’s entry, Fireman Sam and the Extinguishers, is one of 40 carts battling to win one of the three prizes available for the Most Creative Cart, Best Dressed entry or the Highest Fundraising Amount Raised at the race on Saturday 1 October, 10.30am to 6.30pm, at Clifton Park, Rotherham.
Steve Willmer, Tutorial Learning Mentor in the Business, Warehousing and Logistics department at Barnsley College said: “We’re extremely proud to be a part of this charity event. We’ve had tremendous support from the local business community, including Travis Perkins who have donated materials and resources to help build the cart and South Yorkshire Fire Service who have loaned uniforms for the team to wear at the race.
“In addition students studying Accountancy, Business, IT and Travel and Tourism have completed five charity walks and to date have raised over £500 for the Hospice. This is a fantastic achievement and we are extremely proud to be able to present them with the cheque on Saturday at the event.”
