Barnsley College offering careers advice qualification

Barnsley College is one of only a few providers in the north of England offering an OCR Career Guidance and Development Level 6 Diploma for people working in careers guidance.

The diploma is the professional qualification recommended by the Career Development Institute (CDI) for careers guidance practitioners working in settings such as schools and colleges, community and outreach settings or who are involved in delivering the National Careers Service contract.

The course is designed for those who support clients to identify career options, using labour market information (LMI) and working with other agencies to support those clients into positive destinations.

The course is work-based, studied part-time and takes between 18 months and two years to complete.

Julie Beaumont, Head of Business and Management Services at the college, said: “I am really pleased that we are able to offer this qualification and expand our current range of advice, guidance and careers based qualifications.

“The college already has a number of learners who have started this qualification who work for private and public sector organisations, not just in the local area, but also other parts of the country. The qualification is learner led, work based and involves elements of blended learning which means people based in different locations in the UK can study with us.”
