Barnsley College’s recently appointed Principal, Chris Webb, has taken part in a sponsored half-leg wax for charity. The college’s Hair and Beauty department offered its expertise in return for donations from staff and students who gathered to watch the painful ordeal.

The total amount raised was an impressive £170 and all donations will be given to the Children in Need charity which provides grants to projects in the UK that are focused on disadvantaged children and young people.

The leg wax was arranged by Hair and Beauty tutor, Elizabeth Forth, who was keen to get as many of the college’s staff and students involved as possible. She said: “Barnsley College is host to charity fundraisers all year round but it was absolutely brilliant to have our new Principal volunteer to help raise a wonderful amount for Children in Need. Chris was a great sport and I think it’s important for the learners to see their Principal getting involved in fundraising alongside them.”

Chris Webb, Barnsley College Principal, added: “I was ready for some pain but I was surprised by how much it hurt! However, a little pain is nothing compared to what some of the children who are supported by Children in Need go through. I was happy to play a small part in helping those children by volunteering for the wax and it was great to see our students and staff keenly donating money to support this fantastic cause.”
