Former Great Britain athlete Emily Freeman visited Sport students to talk about her extensive career in athletics.
The 200m sprinter came to the College as an inspirational speaker to talk about her career in athletics and give an insight into why the current British Athletics Team is highly successful. The students took the opportunity to ask Emily questions related to coaching, athlete development and sport science.
Emily, now co-founder of Totally Runable, said: “I have visited the College to share with students the tools they need to create the life they want, through changes to self-esteem, fitness and mind-set.
“It is vital for students to gain an idea of the life and commitment involved in individual sports. It was an honour to talk to the students and hopefully inspire the next generation.”
Amanda Sowerby, Sports tutor at Barnsley College, added: “We were honoured and thrilled when Emily spoke to our students about the sacrifices you have to make as an athlete and what the average training session looks like including factors such as training plans, diet, lifestyle, sports psychology, injuries and rehabilitation.
“I’d really like to thank Emily for her vision and response in planning and preparing for this occasion and we look forward to engaging with her in the future.”
