Barnsley College Level 3 Business student, Georgia Riley, has used the knowledge she’s learnt whilst studying her course and started her own business, Shop Festival, which sells a range of clothing and accessories aimed specifically at festival attendees.
Georgia launched the business just over a year ago after creating an account on Depop, an online platform, and starting to sell merchandise to her target market.
Georgia currently sells over 170 product lines and since launching the business, has sold over 3,000 items internationally and has over 10,000 followers on her Depop account.
Georgia, 18, said: “I’m really proud of my business and what I’ve achieved in a relatively short space of time and whilst studying a full-time course at College.
“I’ve used the knowledge I’ve gained on the Business course, especially the units which focused on customer service, international trading, marketing and creative promotion, to sell my products and grow my business. The Enterprise department also helped me to secure a £250 grant from iTrust which I used to expand the range of products I was selling.”
“Having the confidence to start her own successful business, alongside her course is amazing.”
Angela Kerley, Head of Business, Warehousing and Logistics at Barnsley College, added: “We are really proud of Georgia. Not only for having the confidence to start her own successful business, but to do this alongside her course is amazing.
“I hope her business continues to be successful and I wish her the best of luck for the future.”
The College is offering anyone who is interested in starting their own business the opportunity to increase their knowledge and gain a qualification. The Level 2 Aspects of Preparing to Set Up a New Business Award is ideal for someone who wants to enhance their understanding of starting a business.
Students will take a range of units and gain knowledge of marketing and building business relationships. The course costs £375 and is studied on a part-time basis of three hours per week over 10 weeks so study can be fitted around existing commitments.
