Our Level 3 Business students have demonstrated their flair for design in an exciting visual merchandising competition.
The event saw students design an eye-catching shop display as well as an accompanying elevator pitch to explain the thought process behind the design.
Entries were judged by staff and fellow students – those with the highest number of votes were awarded gold, silver or bronze prize, with one standout design winning the Grand Prix award.
Mara Birsa, a current Level 3 Business student, created the Grand Prix design. She said: “I was happy to be involved in this competition as it was an opportunity to showcase my design skills. It surprised me when the winners were announced, because I did not expect to receive the Grand Prix!
“I have always loved arranging things and receiving the award has boosted my confidence in my aesthetic skills.”
Mara’s winning design incorporated product segmentation, visual merchandising and psychological marketing techniques to create a high-impact cosmetics display.
Aneta Worku, one of our Business, Warehousing and Logistics Tutors who was leading on the project, added: “This competition was a fantastic way to push our first-year students out of their comfort zone and into the world of business. It was tough to judge, as we had so many great entries.
“By incorporating different skills such as design, teamwork and the formulation of business pitches, each student was able to draw upon everything they have learnt over the past year to create something truly great!”
If visual merchandising and snappy pitches sound like your bag, why not apply for one of our Business courses? Who knows – maybe next year you could be on the winning team!
