Catering and Hospitality students get a taste for success during Industry Week

Catering and Hospitality students had the opportunity to hear from a diverse array of guest speakers, participate in several cooking challenges and even visit to a lobster hatchery in Whitby, North Yorkshire, as part of their Industry Week.

The sessions enabled students to explore potential career paths within the sector while honing the skills necessary for higher education or future employment.

Barnsley's own Fresh- Pak provided a variety of prepacked foods and challenged the students to a ready steady cook-style competition, using their products to create innovative dishes.

Richard Punshon, owner of the Dog and Partridge restaurant and accommodation in Flouch, Sheffield, offered the students valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of his business.

Rudding Park gave an inspirational culinary showcase to the students and explained what great job opportunities were available once they had gained their qualifications.

College staff member and photographer, Gary Sidebotham taught students the art of capturing the perfect foodie photograph, discussing angles and lighting and demonstrating how to stage the ideal shot using a mobile phone.

Chocolatier Ashley Mcarthy inspired students with creative techniques for transforming chocolate into edible art, setting a challenge for them to make chocolate truffles.

Catering and Hospitality teacher Andy Hodgkiss remarked, “Industry Week has been a tremendous success, with some outstanding guest experts showcasing their skills and discussing their careers.

“It’s fantastic to see professionals genuinely invested in inspiring the next generation of catering and hospitality employees. The students who attended the sessions were delighted with the variety of talks and workshops and found the week both informative and enjoyable.”
