College course prompts promotions for Ian

Wombwell-based LNS Turbo employee Ian Taylor has used the skills and knowledge gained on a team leading course at Barnsley College to advance his career.

Ian, 52, of Rookdale Close, Redbrook, achieved promotions from the shop floor to the position of Quality Inspector and then to his current role of Quality Engineer after completing an Institute of Leadership and Management Team Leading Level 2 Certificate Apprenticeship at the college.

Ian enrolled for the course after the LNS Turbo management identified the leadership abilities he displayed supervising a welding team and offered him the opportunity to gain a relevant qualification.

Ian said: “The course was more than beneficial in helping me along my career path and, since extending my knowledge base, I have put into practice what I have learnt and have taken opportunities to advance within the company. I continue to learn new aspects of business management and will continue formal education in management of Quality Standards.

“I found the course very demanding as I had little previous experience of working on a computer. With the help and understanding of my course tutor, the whole experience became more rewarding and light hearted as the weeks passed by.

“I would encourage anyone of any age considering doing an apprenticeship course at Barnsley College not to just think about it, but actually do it.”

LNS Turbo produces systems for feeding, chip management, coolant management and air filtration for the machine tool industries.
