Annabel Leake is closing in on her lifelong goal of establishing a successful teaching career thanks to her Apprenticeship study programme at Barnsley College.

Annabel, of Vicar Road, Darfield, is now studying a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies at Sheffield Hallam University after completing her Apprenticeship in Children and Young Peoples Workforce in 2014.

The 20-year-old gained practical experience from her work placement at The Hill Primary School in Thurnscoe which she combined with study.

Annabel said: “I wanted to be a teacher when I was younger and learnt so much from my Apprenticeship, which was a great study option as I could work and learn at the same time.

“Being in a teaching environment each day during my work placement enabled me to pick up valuable knowledge and experience. I had my own group of 13 pupils to oversee which was challenging and very beneficial as the group included learners with a mix of abilities.

“I am using the research and time management skills I learnt during my Apprenticeship to meet the demands of my university course. I definitely made the right decision to go to Barnsley College.”
