Would you like to learn to cook healthy, tasty and budget friendly meals? If you have little or no cooking experience, you will learn basic techniques. More experienced? You will get some new ideas and extend your knowledge. And as an added bonus, thanks to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC), you’ll receive a £50 voucher on successful completion of the session!
Course aim
The short course, run in partnership with BMBC, will provide an introduction to healthy cooking on a tight budget. During these difficult times, there is no better way to save money than to understand how you can cook for yourself or your family on a budget, making the most of you weekly supermarket shop.
Course overview
Our expert chefs here at Barnsley College will show you how to get the most out of ingredients when cooking for the family.
Date of course: Wednesday 28 September, 5.30pm – 8.30pm
Session 1: Budgeting (1 hour)
This part of the evening involves planning meals within a budget.
Session 2: Preparation (1 hour)
Learn how to prepare the ingredients.
Session 3: Demonstration and tasting (1 hour)
Demonstration on how to cook for the family and get the most out of a handful of ingredients. To finish off the evening you’ll have a chance to taste what’s been cooked! Recipe cards will be provided for you to try the dish again at home.
Along with the three sessions there will be a chance to ask questions and refreshments will be provided.
On successful completion of the sessions participants will be given a £50 supermarket voucher!
Entry requirements
All applications are means-tested based on household income. To enrol onto this course you must be aged 19+, a single applicant must have a household income of less than £18,525 a year and couples must have a household income of less than £25,000. Evidence of income will be required.
