Course overview

This professional qualification is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accounting or finance. It offers core accounting knowledge and the skills required to progress either into a career in business, finance or professional accounting, or into further education.

A student completing this qualification will develop accounting skills in double-entry bookkeeping as well as an understanding of purchase, sales and general ledgers. Students will develop the professional skills and behaviours needed to contribute effectively in the workplace. Working in accounting requires good communication skills, IT skills and an understanding of the business environment, all of which are covered by this qualification.

You will be assessed by computer-based examinations throughout the course. You may also have the opportunity to learn how to use computerised accounting.

You will need to provide your own calculator, writing materials, USB stick and accounting textbooks. You will also need to organise and pay for your own AAT membership and pay for any exam re-sits required. For information on finance and money matters, please visit our financial support page.

The accountancy skills developed by studying this qualification will enable a student to seek employment with confidence or to progress to a Level 3 Bookkeeping qualification.

How much does the course cost?

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.
