Access to Higher Education: Business Level 3 Full-time

Start Date / Duration

This course will start again in September 2023. This course runs for 30 weeks, over three days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) 9.00am – 4.30pm.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above. Equivalent qualifications will be accepted
  • Students will take part in an interview prior to being enrolled onto the programme
  • Demonstrate a serious commitment and mature approach to learning and study
  • Applicants must be 19 years of age or older as at the start of the course

You will achieve

Access to HE Diploma in Business Level 3.

The qualification is the CAVA Access to Higher Education Programme at Level 3 that can be completed from Pass grade to Distinction level.

Course overview

If you want to start a university course, this course is perfect for you. An Access course makes it possible for you to study across a broad subject range to gain the solid foundation of knowledge, skills and confidence you will need to prepare you for Higher Education study or employment.

The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a qualification which prepares students for study at degree level. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE course could be for you.

Course content

The Access to HE Diploma will help you to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to prepare for HE study or employment. You will study the following:

  • The Business Environment
  • Communications
  • Customer Service
  • Finance for Business
  • Human Resources in Organisations
  • Organisational Structures
  • Principles of Leadership
  • Using the Internet for Business
  • Developing a Business Plan
  • Academic Writing Skills
  • Presentation Skills
  • Research Skills
  • Advanced IT

You will be required to attend for 16 hours per week with a further 16 hours minimum a week self-study.

The course involves practical and research activities as well as assignments, essays, projects, presentations and reports as well as building a portfolio for study skills.

You will need to provide your own writing materials, paper, memory stick and ring binders. A calculator and dictionary are also desirable.

On completion of this course you may be able to progress onto Higher Education at Barnsley College’s  Church Street Campus, other HE provision or other FE courses of study.

Career pathways could include; Business Consultant, Marketing Manager, Recruitment Consultant, HR Manager, Accountant, Financial Controller, and Event Planner to name a few.

If you’re undertaking an Access to Higher Education (HE) course and then go on to complete an HE qualification, the outstanding balance of your Advanced Learner Loan will be written off, once you have fully completed both courses.
