This course starts in September 2023 and is studied for two years.
64 UCAS points from either subject relevant A Level or BTEC equivalent qualifications or a Pass grade from an Access to HE Diploma or Foundation Diploma course.
You will also need GCSE English at grade C/4 or above and a portfolio of creative design work, including sketchbooks and preliminary work.
We welcome applications from students with prior learning and/or industrial experience. Evidence should be submitted through the application and interview process.
You will achieve a Foundation Degree in Art and Design.
You will study a range of modules that develop your skillset and your creative and critical thinking. The course modules draw from a range of disciplines to encourage the development of art and design skills in preparation for work or a range of final year degree programmes.
The programme will provide space for the development of a current, personally-designed portfolio. Practical workshops include painting, ceramics, photography, drawing, printmaking, artists books, multimedia, 3D design, sculpture, digital media and VR.
The first year of the course will establish key practical skills across a range of digital and analogue skillsets. The curriculum is delivered through six modules with practical exhibitions underpinning the submission process. The aim is to develop your professional skills with a public-facing exhibition enabling you to engage with communities and professionals across the creative industries.
In the second year you will hone your creative and professional practice with modules encouraging collaborative and independent approaches to art practice. Practical research modules will allow you to explore a range of employability options.

You will be expected to have a range of drawing and painting materials and access to sketchbooks. Most equipment can be bought through the College, with the exception of certain specialist materials. It is useful for you to have a flash drive or external hard drive.

On successful completion of the course, you can progress to our Fine Art Practice BA (Hons) top-up programme to achieve a full degree or enter the Creative Industries in a range of careers such as: artist, technician, printmaker, animator, lecturer, painter, curator or designer.
