This course will comence September and runs for two years.

Entry requirements
  • You are required to have five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English


  • A Merit or Distinction in a BTEC First Diploma in a relevant subject area
You will achieve
  • On completion of year one you will achieve the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Business which is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels.
  • On completion of year two you will achieve the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business Level 3 which is equivalent to three A Levels.

Course overview

For budding entrepreneurs and those wanting to progress in the world of business, this course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to work successfully in the business and commercial sector.

Course content

You will study seven mandatory business units which will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of business. In addition, you will study six specialist units, which cover a range of business specialisms, including the following subject areas:

  • Marketing
  • Enterprise
  • Finance
  • Event Planning
  • Human Resources
  • International Business
  • Retail
  • Team Leadership
  • Work Experience
  • Business Law

Level 3 Business course specifications

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through a combination of internal and external methods.

  • Twelve units are assessed through a range of techniques including course-work, case studies and practical projects including presentations and observations of business team activities.
  • One unit is assessed through examination with the awarding body.

What equipment will I need?

You will need to provide your own writing material, paper and folder.

You will also need a storage device (USB) to save computerised work.

You can go on to work of or further study after completing your course.

You can progress onto Higher Education, Apprenticeship or directly into employment in business or business management .

How much does the course cost?



16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?
