Computing: Digital and IT Skills Level 2 Certificate Part-time

This course will start on 27 January 2022 and will run on a Thursday, 1.15pm-4.40pm, for 18 weeks.

Entry requirements

There is no requirement for students to have achieved prior qualifications or units prior to undertaking this qualification.

You will achieve

Level 2 Certificate in Digital and IT Skills.

Course overview

This qualification is for those who want to develop and extend their digital skills to prepare for employment for different roles in the digital and creative industries, such as software and programming, network support and digital design.

The qualification is also designed for job roles in other industries where specific digital skills are required, such as finance, marketing and machining and manufacturing. The qualification includes a mandatory unit along with optional units that relate directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers and covers a wide range and use of different digital technologies, systems and software.

Course content

You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the core areas of digital and be introduced to the skills required in the digital sector.

The course will consist of a mandatory Digital Skills Career Progression unit and 12 credits gained from the units listed below:

  • Digital Graphics (6 credits)
  • Website Design and Development (6 credits)
  • Networking (6 credits)
  • Database Design and Development (6 credits)
  • Computer Programming (6 credits)
  • Presentation Software (3 credits)
  • Project Management Software (3 credits)
  • Spreadsheet Software (3 credits)
  • Using Digital Technologies (3 credits)
  • Word Processing Software (3 credits)

You will be assessed using a range of methods such as practical tasks and written coursework that will culminate in a portfolio of evidence. This portfolio will be used to determine your grade.

This course will give you the skills for employment or to progress with your education by moving on to a Level 3 qualification, including the Access to HE in Computing course, as a route into university and Higher Education.

How much does the course cost?

£360.

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

19+ Students

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.
