Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths.
  • Where applicants do not meet the entry requirements, the tutor may use their discretion based on a good personal reference and/or successful interview.

You will achieve

Level 3 Technical Award/Extended Certificate in Computing.

Course overview

As well as providing you with a better understanding of the practical and technical skills needed for a successful career in IT, this course provides opportunities for students to develop a range of skills, techniques and personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in an IT and Computing career.

Course content

If you are interested in learning about general computing and IT subjects, the online world, computing and new technologies, this is the course for you.

We will introduce you to the industry, technology systems, mobile app development, hardware and web development and also provide an opportunity for you to engage with software development, coding, networking and information systems and project management.

This course also helps us to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to apprenticeships, employment or Higher Education.

  • Creating digital animations and graphics
  • Programming/coding
  • Mobile apps development
  • Database development
  • Website development

Two of the units are externally assessed and the rest are assessed using various assignments and continually assessed.

You will require a 8gb USB Flash Drive along with a folder and paper, pens and pencil.

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. You don’t have to be studying sport to get involved in the Sports Academy.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level Maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).

This can be added to your study programme.
