Enrolments are accepted throughout the year. The course will last for 37 weeks.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course but it is not suited to you if you already have a qualification at Level 2 or higher.

To study this course, you must be aged between 16-18 or be an Elective Home Education (EHE) student aged 14 or over. To apply as an EHE, please call 01226 216 123.

You will achieve

A Level 1 qualification in Building and Construction.

Course overview

This multi-trade programme contains elements of a range of construction vocations alongside studying GCSE Maths and English.

The course is highly practical and designed to develop a range of knowledge and practical skills to prepare the learner for progression onto a specialised construction programme.

Course content

Through project-based learning you will be introduced to a broad range of trades, including brickwork, blockwork, joinery and plastering. You will also work on your English, Maths and IT to improve your skills, ready for the next level of study or work.

Assessment will be continuous and throughout the year. You will engage in a range of formative assessments including coursework and practical observations.

All equipment will be provided.

How much does the course cost?

Full-time students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

16 – 18 year olds

Full-time Barnsley College students aged 16-18 years old do not have to pay tuition fees.

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. You don’t have to be studying sport to get involved in the Sports Academy.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.

If you are aged 16 – 19 and don’t already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths they will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards higher grades in English and Maths we can help you do that too.

Need a higher level Maths qualification? We offer a Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths).

This can be added to your study programme.
