This course starts on Monday 12 September 2022 and lasts for 30 weeks. Classes are Monday, Thursday afternoon and Friday.

Entry requirements

64 UCAS points from a minimum of two A Levels (or equivalent) in a related subject or 60 Access to HE credits (of which a minimum of 45 must be at Level 3) in a related subject.

GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.

Course overview

This is a contemporary, cutting-edge programme aimed at those who are eager to follow a career in various job roles within the creative and ever-changing world of games development, photography and film.

The broad range of modules offered by this programme allows students the opportunity to develop diverse intellectual skills whilst, at the same time, developing professional, practical and transferable skills which will enhance future employment opportunities.

Course content

The course offers three pathways: Film, Games and Photography. You will study a range of units on each pathway as listed below:

  • Individual project (set by Pearson)
  • Creative media industry
  • Professional practice is a mandatory unit for all pathways. You will specialise in one area and study modules specific to your chosen pathway.

Games Pathway

  • Game development practices
  • Games in context
  • Game design
  • 3D modelling
  • Principles of animation

Photography Pathway

  • Photographic practices

  • Reportage

Core knowledge and understanding is acquired via lectures, seminars, workshops, group work, computer assisted learning, case studies, video and other multi-media presentations.

You will be taught through lectures, practical sessions and independent learning. We foster a culture of independent learning and decision making that will develop your problem solving and analytical skills.

You will complete project-based assessments which will combine several units to give you an employment-based assessment. The teaching will reflect the project approach and will include aspects of teamworking.

From September 2023 we will be offering a Higher National Diploma (HND) in HND Creative Media Production, which you can progress to. You could also move on to another Higher Education course or employment in a relevant area.

Extra information

As a Higher Education student living in England you may be eligible for the non-means tested Tuition Fee Loan from the Government. For further details go to: www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

A Maintenance Loan of up to £6,904 per year will be available to eligible students living with parents or up to £8,200 per year to those living away from home. EU Students cannot apply.

Students with children or dependant adults may qualify for a Childcare Grant or Adult Dependants’ Grant. Students can apply for these at the same time as applying for a Maintenance Loan.

Remember: Eligible students will not have to pay tuition fees in advance and can apply for the Maintenance Loan before they start the course.
