Start Date / Duration

This course starts in September and will take 12 months to complete.

Entry requirements

  • You should be at least 19 years old and hold a Level 3 qualification or above in a related area.
  • You need to be employed within the childcare/playwork setting.
  • As your programme may involve working with children, you will be required to undertake a satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.

You will achieve a CACHE Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (90 credits)

Course overview

This qualification provides you with the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in adult health and social care provision or in children and young people’s services.

It has six pathways – three for adults and three for children and young people:

  • The Management pathway is suitable for Assistant Managers and Deputy Managers working in day or domiciliary services who are looking to progress their career. It is also appropriate for Managers who have not yet achieved a vocational qualification at this level.
  • The Residential Services pathway is aimed at those in similar job roles as those taking the Management pathways but the focus is on management and care in residential settings.
  • The Advanced Practice pathway is geared towards senior practitioners who would like to develop their career but wish to remain active practitioners in the management framework.

Course content

Mandatory Units

  • Use and develop systems that promote communication
  • Promote professional development
  • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Develop health and safety and risk management policies, procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Undertake a research project within services for health and social care or children and young people
  • Understand children and young person’s development
  • Lead practice that supports positive outcomes for child and young person development
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the safeguarding of children and young people
  • Lead and manage a team within a health and social care or children and young people’s setting
  • Develop professional supervision practice in health and social care or children and young people’s work settings
  • Lead practice in promoting the well-being and resilience of children and young people

Optional Units
This will depend on which pathway is taken.

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, observations in the workplace and assessment tasks.

The course is an E-portfolio using OneFile, access to a computer/laptop and internet will be required. If this is not suitable, a paper base portfolio could be accessed.
