Course overview

This is a one year part-time programme of study. This will enable you to achieve a level 2 qualification in electrical installation that covers a range of topics from the electrical industry.

Within the qualification youwill have the opportunity to utilise the IET On-Site Guide, and also be introduced to how regulations (including BS 7671) affect electrical installation. The qualification covers standard circuits as described in the On-Site Guide.

This qualification allows you to acquire knowledge and craft skills in electrical installation. It does not require occupational evidence from the workplace, so is suitable for learners who currently do not work within the electrical Industry (but may wish to do so). The qualification has been adapted from the QCF Diploma within the apprenticeship framework; so facilitates progression to the Industry recognised qualification.

It will give the learner an opportunity to practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the installation of wiring systems together with the relevant theory of electrical installation. The learner has the opportunity to utilise the IET On Site Guide OSG) with some of the units; and also acquire the knowledge of electrical science and principles.

The qualification:

  • Is regulated at Level 2,
  • Is not recognised by the electrical industry for competence and will not make the learner an electrician, but will facilitate a progression to the industry recognised qualification

Course content

This Diploma covers the following units:

  • Health and safety

The qualification has been adapted from the apprenticeship qualification; so facilitates progression to Industry and an apprenticeship. Although this qualification does not qualify a student as a qualified electrician, it is based on a progression on to a level 3 NVQ diploma apprenticeship or a level 3 diploma in electrical installation. The diploma route requires all learners to complete an NVQ and EPA before they are qualified electricians.

  • EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) ,
  • EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Maintaining Electrotechnical Systems).
