(Access to a computer and the internet is essential to complete this course but you can use equipment in the College’s learning resource centres if it’s not available at home).

Course overview

The Fresh Start programme is an individualised, flexible online programme which will assist people aged 19-24 years to re-engage with education. It is studied in a flexible manner in order to fit the programme around other commitments. The programme duration can be between 10 weeks and a full academic year depending upon the number of hours committed by you each week. The programme is unique to your aspirations and can be designed to be completely generic or aimed at a particular vocational area. Meetings with a personal tutor (either in person or online) will be scheduled every two to three weeks in order to provide ongoing support and a weekly drop-in Maths and English session will be available at College.

L1 Certificate Mandatory unit

You can then choose 4 further units from the following;

  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • Job seeking skills
  • Equality and diversity at work
  • Employment skills
  • Employment rights, contracts and pay
  • Customer service skills
  • Understanding pensions
  • Introduction to catering and hospitality
  • Introduction to construction and building
  • Introduction to transport and logistics

Additional units are also available in:

  • L2 Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • L2 Food safety in Catering

 

Maths and English qualifications at an appropriate level.

The majority of assessments for the employability certificate will be undertaken online, the final assessment requires moderation which can also be done digitally or in College.

Maths and English exams will be either paper-based or on a computer and must be taken in College.

Access to a computer and internet connection

This flexible programme allows for study anywhere with access to a computer and internet connection.

Progression opportunities include further study, an apprenticeship or employment.
