The course starts at various times throughout the year. This course takes up to eight weeks to complete, depending on your engagement.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. You must be aged 19+

You will achieve

Level 1 Award in Employability Skills.

This qualification supports your development of key skills and attitudes valued by employers.

The following areas that can be covered within this qualification:

  • Managing personal finance
  • Effective communication
  • Interview skills
  • Working as part of a team
  • Preparing for work
  • Building working relationships in the workplace
  • Self assessment and development
  • Contributing to a team
  • Business and customer awareness
  • Developing personal confidence
  • Valuing equality and diversity
  • Rights and responsibilities in the workplace

Evidence may be gathered from the following range of assessment methods:

  • Questions and answers
  • Learner statement
  • Tutor/assessor statement
  • Review and tutorial records
  • Worksheets
  • Diary
  • Witness testimony

You will need acess to a computer, the internet, notepad and pen.

You will study online.

This qualification provides a solid grounding to employability and personal development skills, which will enable progression to employment and/or to further learning.

How much does the course cost?

This course may be FREE to you subject to eligibility criteria. Funding is available for those claiming benefits or on a low wage. (Eligibility criteria applies.) If you are not entitled to any funding the course fee is £150.

Barnsley College has a range of sports opportunities for all students to take part in, gain professional training and compete nationally and internationally. We also have a state-of-the-art fitness village, Honeywell Sports Village where students can make use of our fitness suite, spinning studio and classes for competitive rates. You don’t have to be studying sport to get involved in the Sports Academy.
